The Nursing Licensure Compact (NLC) is a interstate agreement that allows nurses to have a license, but the ability to practice in other states that are part of the agreement. Public authorities are urged to make greater use of geographic information for the effective provision of public services. The Irish government`s public service reform plan supports the value of using geographic information to improve the delivery of public services. GeoSpatial`s national strategy outlines measures to optimize Ireland`s geographic infrastructure for government planning and decision-making, including the provision of a relevant, standardized and well-maintained central geoorescence dataset. The agreement was reached to help increase the use of geographic information by LA PSB in the decision-making process. The 2014 economic study by Indecon Economic Consultants identified annual savings of 82 million euros per year through the use of geographic information by PSBs in their decision-making processes. “Economic value of the space industry in Ireland” What does this mean for nurses? Nurses currently practising in states where the legislation is still pending have nothing to do until the bill is passed. Once the state is part of the eNLC, the state board of directors will reach all nurses registered with the state. Nurses must then ensure that their permanent address is up to date with the state board to determine the compact license. Twenty-four of the original NLC states have adopted or have adopted eNLC legislation. Six other states and Guam still have legislation pending approval before joining the ENLC. As of August 19, 2020, 34 states are currently part of the eNLC. New Jersey with partial implementation, as explained below. Each eNLC status is responsible for mailing nurses to changes to the license and process to obtain an extended compact license. Applicants will then have the opportunity to apply for the eNLC with their permanent address or apply for a single state license. If your permanent address switches to a non-ENLC at any time, you will have to submit it to the National Care Board and your eNLC could be revoked. While some states are hesitant to adopt eNLC, according to the NCSBN, there are currently more than 2 million nurses living in eNLC states who have the opportunity to practice in other compact states.
Nurses with compact licences are more desirable because they can immediately accept vacancies without waiting for licensing. The NCSBN also notes that compactly licensed nurses can take effect on July 20, 2017, allowing the Interstate Commission of Nurse Licensure Compact Administration to begin developing appropriate rules and regulations for the new license.
